"I like painting, because it helps me to remember my country... in my dreams, to use my imagination."
Ruth Dawson paints a wide variety of subjects and frequently experiments with using her signature motifs and patterns in new arrangements, maintaining a sketchbook of ideas and designs which she refers to before beginning each painting. She has developed a style which incorporates the dot-making and symbology of traditional Aboriginal art with figurative representations of the local country and animals. Ruth is best known for her vivid landscapes and playful depictions of Karlu Karlu and Kunjarra, both important sites in her dreaming.
