Mary James
60cm x 60cm
Colours of the Desert is a series of painting by Mary James that reinterprets in her own style, the experience of Central Australia and its arid landscape. Mary James is living in Elliott, a town at the fringe of the Top End, far away from her traditional homeland located in Lander River.
There is in these paintings a critical approach of the colours with warm and earthy tones that strengthen by the use of the dots in a systematic way with a very musical rhythm. This work is a departure from Mary's usual use of earthy tones and explores the blues of the wet season.
