Tartukula artist Heather Anderson has depicted a game of football between the Sporties Spitfires and the Tennant Creek Work Camp. On the green grass of Purkiss reserve the players line up, ready for the match to commence. The surrounding red dirt hosts spectators watching from their cars alongside one police car. Football is woven deeply into the social fabric of Tennant Creek. For many families, including Heather's, attending the football on a Saturday morning has a ritual importance often to watch their sons, cousins, partners or fathers play.
