Acrylic on Canvas
Canteen Creek artist Yvette Philomac has painted young bush bananas against a background composed of large, bold dotting in different colours. Bush banana, known as alkwarrer in Alyawarr, are a bush tucker native to Iytewepenty (the Davenport Ranges) which are picked and eaten by locals, both raw and cooked. Depicted here in a light blue hue, the bananas emerge against large, neat, blue and orange dots. Depictions of native bush tuckers are popular among the Canteen Creek artists, as they constitute an important method for the preservation of cultural knowledge.
